How to Add a Donation Button in WordPress (UPI, PayPal and Stripe)

Nonprofits, community projects, creators and free-resource sites often rely on support from visitors. A donation button makes giving quick and easy. Here are the simplest ways to add one in WordPress.

Option 1: UPI QR code (India)

1. Download your UPI QR code from your bank or UPI app.
2. Upload it to the Media Library and add it to a "Support us" page or section with your UPI ID as text.
3. Add a short note on how donations are used.

It has no fees, but you track donations manually.

Option 2: Razorpay, PayPal or Stripe button

• Razorpay: create a Payment Button or Payment Page in the Razorpay dashboard and embed its code with a Custom HTML block.
• PayPal: create a Donate button in your PayPal business account and paste the code or link.
• Stripe: create a Payment Link with "customers choose what to pay" and link a button to it.

Option 3: GiveWP donation forms

For nonprofits that want more:

1. Install the free GiveWP plugin.
2. Create a donation form with suggested amounts and a custom amount field.
3. Connect a payment gateway (Stripe and PayPal are supported).
4. Add a goal progress bar and embed the form on your page.

Make people want to donate

• Explain exactly what the money does ("₹500 feeds 10 students for a day").
• Show progress toward a goal (see progress bars).
• Thank donors and share updates.
• Only issue tax receipts if your organisation is registered to do so.

Don't place donation buttons in a way that could be confused with ads, and keep everything on HTTPS (see installing SSL).
