You have built a service page you are proud of and need five more just like it. Or you want to test a new layout without touching the live page. WordPress surprisingly has no built-in "Duplicate" button, so many people rebuild pages from scratch or copy and paste text and lose the design.

Here are four ways to duplicate a page in WordPress, including Elementor and block editor pages, and the SEO mistake to avoid when you publish the copy.

A duplicate plugin adds a Duplicate link when you hover over any page, post or product in the list. The free SWS Site Fixer plugin (download below) includes this:

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Open Site Fixer > Extras and turn on Duplicate pages & posts.
  3. Go to Pages (or Posts or Products) and hover over the item you want to copy.
  4. Click Duplicate. A copy is created as a draft with the content, featured image, categories, tags and page-builder design.
  5. Open the draft, rename it, change the URL slug and edit the content.

Because the copy is a draft, visitors and search engines never see an unfinished duplicate.

Method 2: Copy all blocks (block editor)

For pages built with the WordPress block editor (Gutenberg), you can copy the whole design without a plugin:

  1. Open the original page in the editor.
  2. Click the three-dot Options menu at the top right and choose Copy all blocks.
  3. Create a new page, click into the content area and paste.
  4. Set the title, featured image, template and SEO fields again, since these are not copied.

Method 3: Save as a template (Elementor)

Elementor lets you save any page as a reusable template:

  1. Open the page in Elementor.
  2. Click the arrow next to Publish (or Update) and choose Save as Template, then name it.
  3. Create a new page, edit it with Elementor, click the folder icon (Add Template), open My Templates and insert your saved template.

This is ideal when the same layout, such as a service page or landing page, will be reused many times. With Elementor Pro you can go further and build reusable Theme Builder templates; see Elementor Pro features worth learning.

Method 4: WooCommerce products

WooCommerce has its own option: go to Products, hover over a product and click Duplicate. The copy is created as a draft with variations, prices and images. Change the title, SKU and description before publishing. For hundreds of similar products, a spreadsheet import is faster; the bulk CSV import guide shows the approach on Shopify.

After duplicating: the SEO checklist

Publishing near-identical pages can split ranking signals and make Google pick the "wrong" version. Before you publish a copy:

  • Change the title and H1 to describe the new page.
  • Change the URL slug; duplicates often get -2 or -copy added.
  • Rewrite the content for its new purpose. A page for "Kitchen renovation" should not have the same paragraphs as "Bathroom renovation".
  • Update the SEO title, meta description and image alt text.
  • Check internal links and buttons, so the copy does not link to the original page's form or booking link by mistake.
  • Delete abandoned drafts you no longer need.

Testing a redesign safely

Duplicating is also a safe way to experiment: copy a live page, redesign the draft, preview it, and only then swap it in. For bigger changes across the whole site, use a staging copy, or put the site in maintenance mode while you work.

Download the free plugin below to add the Duplicate link to every page, post and product. It also helps with email delivery, security, speed and redirects.

Frequently asked questions

Does WordPress have a built-in duplicate page option?

No. WordPress core does not include a Duplicate button for pages or posts. You can copy the content manually in the block editor, use Elementor's templates, or add a plugin that puts a Duplicate link under every item.

Will duplicating a page copy the Elementor design?

A proper duplicate tool copies the page's Elementor data along with the content, so the copy opens in Elementor with the same layout. Copying and pasting text alone does not copy the design.

Is the duplicated page published straight away?

Good duplicate tools create the copy as a draft, so it is not visible to visitors or search engines until you change the content and publish it.

Can duplicate pages hurt SEO?

Publishing two near-identical pages can split ranking signals and confuse search engines. Always rewrite the copy for its new purpose, change the title, URL and meta description, and keep only one version targeting each topic.

Can I duplicate WooCommerce products?

Yes. WooCommerce has its own Duplicate link under each product in the Products list, and the SWS Site Fixer duplicate option also works on products.
