On this page
A coming soon page replaces your unfinished website with a simple "launching soon" message, while you keep building behind it. It can also collect email addresses so you launch to an audience. Here is how to create one in WordPress.
What to put on the page
- Your logo and a one-line description of what is coming.
- A launch date or timeframe, if you have one.
- An email signup ("Get notified at launch").
- Contact details or social links.
Method 1: A coming soon / maintenance plugin
Most coming soon plugins show the page to visitors and the real site to you while logged in. The free SWS Site Fixer plugin (download below) includes this on its Maintenance tab: add a title and message, tick the box and save. For a short pause on a live site, see our guide to maintenance mode.
Method 2: Elementor
Elementor includes a Maintenance Mode / Coming Soon setting under Elementor > Tools (in the Maintenance Mode tab). Design a page with Elementor (Canvas layout), then select it as the coming soon template and choose who can see the real site.
Collect emails
Add a simple email form connected to your email marketing tool (see adding a newsletter signup form). One field and one button is enough.
Check before launch day
- Open the site in a private window to confirm visitors see the coming soon page.
- Make sure your contact details are correct.
- Keep the page simple and fast.
Launching cleanly
- Switch the coming soon page off.
- Untick Settings > Reading > Discourage search engines if you used it.
- Submit your sitemap in Search Console (see setting up Search Console).
- Email your signup list.
Tip: a forgotten coming soon page is a common reason new sites never appear on Google. Check from a private window after launch.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between coming soon and maintenance mode?
A coming soon page is for a site that has not launched yet. Maintenance mode is a short, temporary pause on a live site and should send a 503 status to search engines.
Will Google index my coming soon page?
It can, if it is publicly visible and indexable. That is fine for a real launch page, but switch it off and let Google crawl the full site at launch.
Can I keep working on the site while the page is live?
Yes. Coming soon tools show the real site to logged-in administrators and the coming soon page to everyone else.
What should a coming soon page include?
Your logo, a one-sentence description of what is coming, a launch date if you have one, an email signup and your contact or social links.
