How to Create a One-Page Website in WordPress (With Smooth Scroll Menu)

On this page
A one-page website puts all your content on a single scrolling page: hero, about, services, testimonials, contact. The menu links jump to each section. It is quick to build and works well for small businesses, events, freelancers and app launches.
Step 1: Plan the sections
- Hero: headline, one sentence, main button.
- About or why choose us.
- Services or features.
- Portfolio or results.
- Testimonials.
- FAQ.
- Contact form and map.
Step 2: Build the page
Create a page called Home, set it as the homepage in Settings > Reading, and build each section with Elementor or blocks.
Step 3: Give each section an ID
- Elementor: select the container, go to Advanced > CSS ID and enter a name like
services(no # and no spaces). - Block editor: select the group block, open Advanced > HTML anchor and enter the name.
Step 4: Create the menu
In Appearance > Menus (or the Elementor menu widget), add Custom Links with URLs like #services, #testimonials and #contact. Using the full address such as /#services makes the links work from other pages too.
Step 5: Sticky header and smooth scroll
A sticky header keeps the menu visible while scrolling (see how to make a sticky menu). Modern browsers can scroll smoothly with one line of CSS:
html { scroll-behavior: smooth; }
If the sticky header covers section titles, add scroll-margin-top: 90px; to the sections.
SEO for one-page sites
- Use one clear H1 and H2s for each section.
- Write a focused title and meta description around your main service and location.
- Add a blog later to target more keywords (see adding a blog section).
Frequently asked questions
Is a one-page website bad for SEO?
It can only rank well for a small set of related keywords, because there is one page and one title. For many topics, a multi-page site or an added blog is better.
How do anchor links work?
Give each section an ID such as services, then link to #services in the menu. Clicking scrolls to that section.
Can I add a blog to a one-page website?
Yes. Keep the homepage as your one-page design and add a separate blog page; this also helps SEO.
Do I need Elementor?
No. The block editor can set HTML anchors on blocks too. Elementor just makes the design faster.
