  5. Step 5: SEO for your name

A PDF resume is easy to ignore. A resume website on your own domain shows recruiters and clients your skills, projects and personality, and it ranks for your name on Google. Here is how to build one in WordPress.

Step 1: Domain and hosting

Register a domain with your name and install WordPress (see installing WordPress). Not sure about the difference between them? Read domain vs hosting.

Step 2: Choose a clean theme

Pick a lightweight theme with a starter template for resumes or portfolios. Astra, Kadence and Blocksy all have suitable templates.

Step 3: Build the sections

  1. Hero: your name, title (for example "Frontend Developer"), one line about what you do, and buttons for Contact and Download CV.
  2. About: a friendly photo and a short paragraph.
  3. Skills: grouped skills, optionally with progress bars.
  4. Experience: roles, companies, dates and key achievements with numbers.
  5. Projects: three to six best projects with images and links.
  6. Education and certificates.
  7. Testimonials from managers or clients.
  8. Contact: a simple form, email and LinkedIn.

Use anchor links so the menu jumps to each section (see one-page websites).

Step 4: Add your CV download

Upload a PDF to the Media Library and link it from a button. Name the file clearly, such as firstname-lastname-cv.pdf.

Step 5: SEO for your name

  • Set the site title to your full name and role.
  • Write a meta description summarising your expertise.
  • Link the site from LinkedIn, GitHub and social profiles.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a domain for a resume website?

A domain with your name, such as yourname.com or yourname.in, looks professional and is easy to share on your CV and LinkedIn.

One page or multiple pages?

A one-page site with sections works well for most resumes. Add separate pages for detailed case studies or a blog.

Should I include my phone number and address?

Share an email and LinkedIn. Avoid publishing your full home address; a city is enough. Phone is optional.

Can I offer my CV as a download?

Yes, link a PDF version. Keep it updated alongside the website.
